About Nigel Ingram
Nigel Ingram (NDD, ATC, MA, PhD) studied Fine Arts at the West Sussex College of Art and later worked with Ronald Dunlop (RA) and attended the Royal Academy Schools (1966). In 1967 he won a Chettle Scholarship to study and work at the University of Paris, and completed a thesis on the work of Cezanne. He gained a post-Graduate Teacher’s Certificate at the University of Sussex in 1969 and taught in West Sussex and at the Weald Comprehensive School, Billingshurst, where he was Head of Art for a number of years. He was awarded an M.A.(Ed.) at the University of Southampton (1975) with a dissertation on Creativity and Intelligence, followed by a PhD in Experimental Psychology on Visual Perception (1983). He has published various papers and book chapters on Visual Perception (1980-1989).
Nigel has painted in Hampshire and West Sussex and abroad for many years. At the age of eighteen he held his first major exhibition at Arundel Priory (1962), sponsored by the Duke and Duchess of Norfolk. He exhibited in Paris (1965-1969) and more recently at The 1st Floor Gallery, Romsey (1999), Chilworth Manor, Southampton (1993, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2009) and at Furzey Gardents (2006). Paintings are held by Jacques Spreiregen (Paris and Nice) and other collectors in England and continental Europe.
Nigel has completed a number of commissioned designs for stained glass windows. One of his major works includes the Jubilee window, a stained glass window built to commemorate the 450th Anniversary of the foundation of King Edward VI School, Southampton. The Window was unveiled by HRH Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex on 4th June 2003. More recently Nigel completed a Jubilee Triptych Stained Glass Window for Peter Symonds College, Winchester, which was unveiled by Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire, Mrs. Mary Fagan, JP on 18th January, 2008. This new Window was built in Reims, France, in the Atelier Simon Marq. The Studio is particularly well-known for building the Chagall Window in Chichester Cathedral and the magnificent Chagall Triptych in Reims Cathedral.
Nigel was appointed ‘Resident Artist’ at Best Western Chilworth Manor, near Southampton, in 2010, where he has a permanent display of paintings and prints. He continues to paint in England and Europe and complete commissions.
